UTTAR PRADESH POLICE BHARTI NEWS

The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board has
started the process of conducting examination for the promotion
of sub-inspectors (S-Is) to the post of inspectors.
The board had earlier initiated the process of filling up 1,340
vacancies of inspectors following an order issued by the
government on October 31, 2009. However, 10 sub-inspector had
filed writ petitions in the Allahabad High Court for quashing of the
order.
The board’s chairman, Director General (DG) V C Goel, said: “We
are initiating the process of promotion of S-Is now, as the
Allahabad High Court has dismissed the writ petitions of the sub-
inspectors on August 16.”
The S-Is had filed the petitions against the process in accordance
with the UP Sub-Inspector & Inspector (Civil Police) Service Rules,
2008 as amended by first amendment to the rules of the
year-2009 notified on April 2, 2009. The petitioners sought an
order restraining the board from initiating any process as per the
amended government order. They wanted the board to consider
filling up the vacancies created prior to December 2, 2008 in
accordance with the government order dated November 5, 1965.
As per the 1965 order, promotion was considered in order of
seniority.

Goel, meanwhile, said: “This is the first time that we have
introduced the process of conducting written test and the Group
Discussion (GD) for the promotion of S-Is.” He said the forms for
the procedure would be sent to the SP offices in the districts and
the heads of other police wings across the state.
